How does a sleep apnea oral appliance work?
An oral appliance is worn at night like a mouthguard and gently holds your lower jaw forward, which helps keep your airway open while you sleep. Each appliance is custom-made for you. Sleep apnea itself is diagnosed by a physician, usually after a sleep study, and if you want your medical insurance to cover the appliance you will need a sleep study or a diagnosis from your physician.
